SANITARY SEWER SPILL REPORT TO EPD
Upper 108 Sanitary Sewer Lift Station - 2416 Waleska Hwy
DATE OF SPILL: Saturday, March 22, 2025
REPORT SUBMITTED: Initial call to EPD made at 4:40PM on Saturday, March 22, 2025 (Incident #112106)
LOCATION OF SPILL: Upper 108 Sanitary Sewer Lift Station - 2416 Waleska Hwy
CAUSE OF SPILL: Primary pump tripped off and secondary pump failed to come on
ESTIMATED VOLUME DISCHARGED: 2,000 gallons
RECEIVING WATERS: Sharp Mountain Creek
WRF NPDES PERMIT: GA0032204
CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO MITIGATE OR TO REDUCE ADVERSE EFFECTS: City crews were contacted by the Treatment Plant regarding a customer call for a manhole just outside the station overflowing at 2:40PM. Crews were able to get both pumps back online and pumped the station down. The overflow was stopped at approximately 4:00PM on Saturday 3-22-25. Crews remained onsite to ensure that the station cycled between pumps correctly and remediation work was performed. Signage has been posted and sampling upstream and downstream of the point of flow entry into the creek was started on Saturday. This will continue for 6 additional days. CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT FUTURE OCCURENCES: This station has been checked throughout the weekend to ensure no additional issues. The City is working with our consultant on installing SCADA systems at all of our lift stations as a part of the GEFA Clean Water project for rehabilitation of the collection system.
