MINOR SPILL REPORT TO EPD

DATE OF MINOR SPILL: Wednesday, April 13, 2022, 12:00P – 2:00P

REPORT SUBMITTED: Thursday, April 14, 2022, 5:05PM to Deborah McClintock of EPD, Cartersville Office and also on Friday, April 15, 2022, 3:30PM to EPD’s Environmental Emergency Line (Incident #99859)

LOCATION OF MINOR SPILL: Doris Wigington Park – Gennett Drive, Jasper, GA

CAUSE OF MINOR SPILL: Blockage in the sanitary sewer collection system crossing Doris Wigington Park near the southern most Gennett Drive entrance to the park.

ESTIMATED VOLUME DISCHARGED: 500 gallons

RECEIVING WATERS: The City is uncertain whether sewage entered waters of the State. This was a low impact spill which soaked back into the ground. There is a nearby ditch which feeds into Hinton Creek.

WRF NPDES PERMIT: GA0032204

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO MITIGATE OR TO REDUCE ADVERSE EFFECTS: The area has been completely marked off with caution tape and signage has been posted in the area. City crews are sampling the creek downstream of the area for at minimum the next seven (7) days.

SPILL STATUS: City crews relieved the blockage in the manhole on 4-13-22 and the sewer is flowing freely through the collection system now. Any questions may be addressed to David Hall, Utility Director for the City of Jasper 706-692-9102.

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT FUTURE SPILL: Once repairs to the main are completed, this location will be added to a weekly inspection list for monitoring.
