MINOR SPILL REPORT TO EPD

DATE OF MINOR SPILL: Sunday, October 23, 2022

LOCATION OF MINOR SPILL: Small field area to the east of Community Bank of Pickens County on W Church Street (approximate address is 1093 W Church Street)
CAUSE OF MINOR SPILL: An accumulation of non-disposable wipes, rags, and paper towels that built up inside of a manhole in the field. The City was alerted to the area through a customer notification of sewer smell in the area on 10-25-22.
ESTIMATED VOLUME DISCHARGED: 7,500 gallons
RECEIVING WATERS: Town Creek

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO MITIGATE OR TO REDUCE ADVERSE EFFECTS: The area has been cleaned of all solid materials, and limed. Initial samples have been taken and processed and the City is waiting for additional direction from EPD regarding sampling.
SPILL STATUS: City crews relieved the blockage in the manhole and main on 10-25-22 at 1PM, and sewage is flowing freely through the collection system now. Any questions may be addressed to David Hall, Utility Director for the City of Jasper 706-692-9102.

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT FUTURE SPILL: This line will be added to a preventative maintenance schedule to ensure no additional problems occur.
